Spellcasting and Timing

There are many factors that go into determining the optimum timing to perform your spell. The purpose of your spell is the most important factor in deciding when you will carry out your work.

Working with the proper timing of the Sun, Moon, time of year, time of day, day of the week, hour of the day, Deity, Spirit, etc. are just a few of the considerations given to timing for spellcasting and worship. For our purposes I recommend keeping your timing simple by taking into consideration the phase of the moon and when possible, the day of the week. With each attempt, progress is made. You will finetune your timing process as you develop your skill casting spells.

Timing by the Phase of the Moon

The phase of the moon is very important when conducting spells and rituals. Working with the proper phase of the moon adds impetus to your work facilitating your success. It is swimming with the energetic current as opposed to swimming against it.

Full Moon – Traditionally all Witches cast circle and petition the Goddess for what is needed the night of the full moon, as this is a time of heightened power for spell casting. The day before or after the full moon can also be used when needed.

Waning Moon – A time of decrease in the size of the moon. The dark side of the Moon. The horns of the moon point right. Use this time of the month to perform works of decrease (weight loss), separation (of circumstances), banishing (poverty), cleansing (negative energy), etc. The Waning cycle is approximately two weeks long.

Dark of the Moon – The night before the New Moon. It doesn’t get any darker than this. This night has long been used to do the work that is best kept hidden.

New Moon – This is the time that is optimum for divination and introspection. Many choose to begin their spells of increase on the New Moon, working the spell to completion on the Full Moon.

Waxing Moon – A time of increase in the size of the moon. The bright side of the Moon. The horns of the moon point left. All spells of increase and a constructive nature are best performed during this time of the month. For example; Love, Success, Protection, Fertility, Wealth, Power. The Waxing cycle is approximately two weeks long.

Timing by the Day of the Week

Take into consideration the planetary correspondences of the days of the week that best relate to your purpose when determining the timing for your spell casting. And when possible utilize that day for your work.
